De laatste wandeldag lopen we in de zinderende hitte. Het eerste deel van onze voettocht gaat de laatste dag door de voetheuvels van het Pirin-gebergte. Gelukkig lopen we aanvankelijk nog door bebost terrein. Als we het plaatsje Melnik naderen verandert het gesteente. Dit is een gebied met zandsteenformaties zoals op bovenstaande foto is te zien. Hoewel het landschap prachtig was vond ik de laatste uren van deze dag veel en veel te warm.
Ik was dolblij toen we eindelijk in Melnik aankwamen en ons konden laven aan een bronnetje. Terwijl iedereen op apegapen in de schaduw zat te wachten mocht Jaap zijn tochtleidersplicht doen door te zoeken naar het hotel dat voor ons was gereserveerd. De volgende dag konden we nog heerlijk wat door de omgeving lummelen alvorens de terugreis te aanvaarden.
The last day of our tour we walked while it was terribly heat. The first part went through the foothills of the Pirin Mountains. First in the shadow of the woods. When we come near the village of Melnik the composition of the stone changes. This is an area of sandston formations as seen on the picture above. Though the landscape was beautiful for me the last hours of this day were much too warm.
I was very happy when we finally arrived in Melnik and could drink from a source. While everyone was waiting in the shadow, Jaap could fulfill his guide duties by looking for the hotel that had been reserved for us. The nex day we pleasently could look around a bit in Melnik before starting the journey back to Sofia and to the Netherlands.
